“To Drill or Drift?”

Unseasonably cold weather puts Minnesota’s 2013 Opening Fishing Season on ice as hardy-souls find drilling for walleyes easier than drifting.

“Clubbing Outdoors”

With the Yukon loaded to-the-gills and the Beasty Boys playing, fish were soon pulling at our lines and New York strip steaks flamed over a hot grill. The air was filled with laughter and the cold night sky danced with green and purple Northern Lights.

This is my kind of night out-on-the town – swilling a few cold beverages and pickin up a few Walleyes to take home!

A blizzard came through Saturday, which really turned fishing around. My buddy Brian and I caught our limit of Walleyes and Saugers by 3:00! The other ice-house came in at a close second.

I smell a Fish-Fry!

The week before Halloween my friends and I usually travel to Ontario, Canada, near the Northwest Angle. We would hunt deer on the many islands located on Lake of the Woods.

There was one year we got stuck 30-miles out when a storm blew in like the one this week. With 50-mile sustainable winds, we had 4 to 6 foot waves as we fought our way back to deer camp! We took two boats, a 17-foot Alumacraft and a Bayliner runabout. I was driving the Alumacraft, while wave-after-wave would crash over the bow; only to land on the motor behind me.

We pulled ashore twice to start a fire and wait for the wind to subside. The squalls would raise the lake to our face — drenching our souls and leaving a chill I still feel today!

WOW! I can’t believe it! Just a few weeks ago, I announced to our members that the YouTube video, “Monster Fish Caught On Video” was within 25,000 views of a million! And TODAY it has reached 1-Million views! This is very exciting, especially when you think twenty hours of video are uploaded to YouTube every minute; in turn, users stream 75 billion videos per year. With all those videos, what do you think our chances were of making a dent in YouTube and reaching, 1 million hits?

1 of every 3.1 million YouTube videos ever receive 1 million hits!

Picuture of 40-inch Northern Pike

Picuture of 40-inch Northern Pike

Congratulations Kevin! This was his first trip to Arnesen’s Rocky Point Resort.
Of course, it’s always the new guy who lands the biggest fish!

This Pike was exactly 40-inches with plenty of battle scars. He was blind in the left eye with a bite on his back and the top tail fin was missing.

The Real Roach Chubby Darter

Incredibly, this huge fish was caught on a small #3 Real Roach Chubby Darter! Both treble hooks were nearly bent straight! The fish was released for you!

It was the week of Halloween 08 and Matt, Tim, Ryan and I traveled to the Northwest Angle of Lake of the Woods, about 450 miles from the Twin Cities to Ontario, Canada. This is serious big buck hunting country!

Pictured below: Tim and his 9-point buck!

We had a little problem Saturday morning trying to get our hunting license, but once we found someone who would sell us a license, we quickly packed our boats and were on our way. The first day was simply scouting and putting up tree climbing stands.
